Kitsap Transit and the Port of Bremerton Partner to Improve Shoreline Facilities in Port Orchard

The Port of Bremerton and Kitsap Transit have partnered to recently complete a facilities improvement project on the waterfront in Port Orchard. Working together to plan the project and to share the labor and material costs, both organizations upgraded their adjacent facilities and improved the appearance of the waterfront to the benefit of the citizens of Port Orchard and Kitsap County.

The project location is along the bulkhead from the east end of the Port Orchard Marina, which is operated by the Port of Bremerton, along the waterfront at the Kitsap Transit Inter-Modal Terminal. Crews from Kitsap Transit demolished the existing asphalt walkway and removed the old railings and wood light fixtures. Crews from the Port of Bremerton constructed a new concrete sidewalk and railings and installed new lighted bollards and light poles. Material costs for the project were shared between the two organizations.

As a result of this successful partnership, the appearance of the waterfront is much improved, making the area more inviting to the many visitors and local commuters that frequent the area on a daily basis. The upgraded, energy efficient lighting makes the area more secure after dark by providing increased illumination at lower energy consumption.

Kitsap Transit and the Port of Bremerton are pleased to demonstrate how partnering of public agencies can produce significant benefits for their constituents. Both agencies look forward to future opportunities to bring partnerships together to accomplish positive results in an efficient and timely manner.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the project site on Friday, April 27, at 11:00AM.
